Projects > Everything Must Go

After moving to NYC in the winter of 2010 I rented a studio sublet at 89 Bridge Street in the Dumbo section of Brooklyn. There were an older group of artists who had worked there for many years since the space’s conversion into an art studio in the early 1990’s. I worked in a small space by the windows, until one day the middle space was offered to me to rent. I gladly accepted the space but was left with the burden of being responsible for the previous artist’s leftover materials. It wasn’t only artworks and materials left behind, but an entire body of work, insulin, family photos, and a liquor cabinet. It was obvious that I would be able to use the artist materials for myself, but it was not until I realized the weight of what was left behind, that I needed to use the work of this artist as the material base to reconstruct a narrative through an ongoing archive to help generate my own work
