As part of a group show, "From, Johnson," (2010) involving former Vermont Studio Center residents, I mailed soil and seeds from France, where I was living nomadically, as a record of that particular time and place. I desired to re-contextualize the physicality of one environment in another that strove to represent yet another environment. The envelope also contained instructions for how to cultivate the grass inside the envelope.
